Hello! Happy new year!

I have been neglectful of the blog. So much so, that I often forget I have a blog. The problem is that I got a bit stuck. I was diligently recording our travelling escapades, and then we hit the Philippines where wifi was so dismally poor that the whole blogging experience was just too painful. I had promised myself that I would stop if blogging was becoming more chore than fun. And I was having too much fun in the sun.

Hanging out in Hanoi and Halong Bay

We took the 24 hour sleeping bus from Vientiane to Hanoi. Having done many long bus journeys in South America, we felt well prepared for the venture, despite all the bad press this journey had received from previous travellers.

Lazy days in Laos

We return home to London in just under a week. It hardly seems possible – 6 months, just like that. But I feel almost ready to come back, maybe.

You have probably noticed that I have totally let the side down on the blogging front and I have a whole two months to catch you up on. In part, this has been due to the lack of working internet during our time here in the Philippines, and the fact that sitting on a beach or boat has not allowed for effective typing on the ole ipad. Such a hard life. 

Chiang Mai and the Thailand review

Week 4 of our time in SE Asia saw us returning to Thailand – flying into Chiang Mai to see what the north had to offer. We ended up only spending 3.5 days in Chiang Mai before catching a bus out to the Laos border, but during this time we managed to fit in quite a bit. 

Myanmar review

We spent an amazing 2 weeks in Myanmar, managing to do and see everything we wanted to. It was a bit of a rush at times, involving a tonne of bus journeys, but we loved it all (with the exception of the locals’ travel sickness).

Myanmar: Part II

After the peaceful beauty of Bagan, the city of Mandalay was a bit of a shock. We spent 1.5 days here, which was plenty for us. 

Bus interlude

It’s 4.35am and we’re sat outside, waiting for our bus to Hue. The heavens have decided to open and the rain has been non-stop since this afternoon. Big, fat, heavy drops. And the mozzies have come out to play. Thankfully we are protected by the tin roof, but it would be nice if the owner decided to open his doors to let us in, as promised.

Magical Myanmar

Myanmar (Burma), did not originally feature in our SE Asia plans. We didn’t think we’d have the time. All it took was a recommendation by a friend and a quick Google, to convince us that we needed to make time. And boy, are we pleased we did.

Week 1 in Thailand

We spent a glorious weekend back home in London, catching up with family and friends and gorging on foods we had missed during our South American jaunt (cheese, mince pies, Sunday roast and Chinese take away). Soon enough, it was time to get back on a jet plane, this time heading East to the land of spices, temples and ping pong.

Argentina review

Argentina is the 8th biggest country in the world. It’s massive. We spent almost a month here and could probably spend that time over again and still not do it justice.
